Marine Detachment (MarDet) Fort Gregg-Adams, VA was established in 1983. Its mission is to develop, support, manage and provide resident, entry, intermediate and career individual-skill level, standards-based training. MarDet Fort Gregg-Adams organizational structure includes a headquarters section and two companies.
MarDet Fort Gregg-Adams is responsible for training entry-level enlisted Marines in the following 11 Military Occupational Specialty (MOS): Personnel Retrieval and Processing (PRP) Specialist (0471), Airborne and Air Delivery Specialist (0451), Bulk Fuel Specialist (1391), Food Service Specialist (3381), Small Arms Repairer Technician (2111), Towed Artillery Systems Technician (2131), Light Armored Vehicle Repairer/Technician (2147), Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer (2171), Ammunition Technician (2311), Welders (1316) and Metal Worker (2161).
MarDet Fort Gregg-Adams is also responsible for training officers in the following eight MOSs: Mortuary Affairs Officer (0407), Air Delivery Officer (0405), Bulk Fuel Officer (1390), Food Service Officer (3302), Ordnance Vehicle Maintenance Officer (2110), Weapons Repair Officer (2120), Electro-Optic Instrument Repair Officer (2125) and Ammunition Officer (2340). Additionally, Marine Officers attend the U.S. Army Logistics Captains Career Course (LC3) at the Army Sustainment University.
MarDet Fort Gregg-Adams maintains a staff of approximately 180 Marines and has an annual throughput of nearly 2,500 students. Importantly, the MarDet mission includes acting as a proponent for specified MOS communities in order to support operating force manpower requirements.
In addition to training Marines, the Detachment is responsible for maintaining Joint, USMC, and multi-service doctrine and supporting Marine Corps Systems Command on new and modified equipment.
All students, regardless of course, must report to the Marine Detachment Fort Gregg-Adams S-1 located in BLDG 9059, Sustainment Avenue, Fort Gregg-Adams 23801, prior to reporting to their respective course (during normal working hours M-F 0730-1630). All Marines will provide S-1 with a copy of their command endorsed Defense Travel System (DTS) Orders and Funding Letter. S-1 will provide the Marine with a Reporting Endorsement and complete all required administrative actions. If arriving outside of normal business hours, Marines should report to the A Company Staff Duty Officer (SDO) in BLDG 9080 ((804) 734-7487), or the B Company SDO in BLDG 18021 ((804) 734-8798) for a reporting time/date stamp on their orders. The SDO will direct all students to report to S-1 on the following business day to receive a Reporting Endorsement.

DIRECTIONS TO FORT GREGG-ADAMS, VIRGINIA
1. LOCATION: Fort Gregg-Adams is located approximately 25 miles south of Richmond, Virginia, and approximately 6 miles east of Petersburg, Virginia.
2. AIR: The airport that serves Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, is the Richmond International Airport (RIC) (1 Richard E Byrd Terminal Drive, Richmond, Virginia).
3. BUS: The bus station that serves Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, is in Petersburg, Virginia (100 West Washington Street, Petersburg, Virginia).
4. TRAIN: The train station that serves Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, is in Petersburg, Virginia (3516 South Street, Petersburg, Virginia).
5. CAR: Fort Gregg-Adams is located just off of I-95 and I-295, in Petersburg, Virginia.
a. From I-95N – Exit 50D to East Wythe Street - When off-ramp splits, bear left. At the end of the off-ramp turn right onto East Wythe Street (East Wythe Street turns into East Washington Street and then into Oaklawn Boulevard, but is all the same road). Turn right after the sixth traffic signal (just past the entrance of the Petersburg National Battlefield) (approximately four miles from I-95).
b. From I-95S – Exit 52 to East Wythe Street - At the end of the off-ramp turn left onto East Wythe Street (East Wythe Street turns into East Washington Street and then into Oaklawn Boulevard, but is all the same street), turn right after the sixth traffic signal (just past the entrance of the Petersburg National Battlefield) (approximately four miles from I-95).
c. From both I-295N or I-295S - Exit 9B - merge onto Oaklawn Boulevard, at fourth traffic signal make a left into the Sisisky Gate (approximately two miles from I-295).
BILLETING
1. Entry-Level Intended MOS (IMOS) Training.
a. Entry-Level IMOS Training is defined as training that assigns an initial or new MOS.
b. All students registered in the Marine Corps Training Information Management System (MCTIMS) Student Registrar Module using the 0EE, 2E, or 2E2 student-types WILL BE billeted in BLDG 9080 (IMOS 0451, 0471, 1391, and 3381), or BLDG 18021 (IMOS 1316, 2111, 2131, 2147, 2161, 2171, and 2311).
c. All other student-types registered in the MCTIMS Student Registrar Module to attend IMOS training (e.g., 0E, 0EF, 1E, 3EL, or 3EP) WILL NOT be billeted in government quarters. On-base lodging (IHG Hotel - Holiday Inn Express, BLDG 12015) aboard Fort Gregg-Adams MUST BE first choice of billeting (if not available through DTS, contact (804) 733-4100 EXT. 2000 or 2001 to inquire about lodging). If on-base lodging is unavailable at the IHG Hotel, the student must report to the MARDET Fort Gregg-Adams S-1 (BLDG 9059) to receive the proper endorsement/statement of non-availability. In the case that billeting cannot be obtained at on-base lodging, it is highly recommended that the student acquire lodging in Colonial Heights, Virginia. Billeting IS NOT within walking distance so a valid driver’s license and POV, or command funded rental car are required (Uber/Lyft/Taxi are not reliable and very expensive). Student TAD orders will need to specifically authorize this, and the parent unit must fund this requirement (TECOM, TRNGCMD, and/or MARDET Fort Gregg-Adams WILL NOT fund rental cars for students).
2. All Other Courses aboard Fort Gregg-Adams. Students attending any other course aboard Fort Gregg-Adams WILL NOT be billeted in government quarters. 1. Entry-Level Intended MOS (IMOS) Training. All students billeted in BLDG 9080, or BLDG 18021 WILL subsist at government expense in Fort Gregg-Adams mess halls.
2. All Other Courses aboard Fort Gregg-Adams. Students attending any other course aboard Fort Gregg-Adams WILL NOT subsist at government expense but WILL subsist on the local economy. Approved TAD orders must state the traveler will be authorized the applicable full meal rate plus incidental rate.
MARDET FORT Gregg-Adams DETACHING INSTRUCTIONS
All Marines MUST report to S-1 upon completion of their course, prior to departing Fort Gregg-Adams, to receive a Detaching Endorsement and Statement of Non-Availability for lodging and messing (if applicable).
OTHER INSTRUCTIONS
1. Checklist. There are no checklists that must be completed prior to attending any course aboard Fort Gregg-Adams.
