LtCol Wheeler enlisted in the Marine Corps in December of 1996. Upon completion of recruit training, he was assigned to Recruit Training Regiment, Parris Island, SC. In February of 1999 LtCol Wheeler executed a Permanent Change of Assignment to MCAS Beaufort for duty with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 332. During this tour he deployed to Tazar, Hungry in support of Operation Noble Anvil, and completed a UDP to Iwakuni, Japan, Okinawa, Japan, and Thailand in support of Cobra Gold 2000.
In January 2001, LtCol Wheeler reported into United States Pacific Command, Camp Smith, HI for duty as the Special Assistant for Security to the Commander USPACOM. During this assignment he also served on the Joint Color Guard. In April of 2003, LtCol Wheeler was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program. LtCol Wheeler was commissioned a Second Lieutenant upon graduation from the University of South Carolina in May 2006.
Following The Basic School and Logistics Officers Course, LtCol Wheeler reported to 2d MLG, CLR-27, CLB-22, where he served as the Operations Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Motor Transport Officer. During this tour he deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring and once in support of Operation Unified Response in Haiti.
In May of 2010, LtCol Wheeler reported to MCRD Parris Island where he served as a Series Commander Fox Company, Company Commander Golf Company, and Aide de Camp to the Commanding General Eastern Recruiting Region, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC.
LtCol Wheeler attended Expeditionary Warfare School, Quantico, VA from 2013-2014 before reporting to Marine Aircraft Group 31 (MAG-31) in May of 2014. LtCol Wheeler was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 where he served as the Company Commander for Motor Transportation, Headquarters and Service, and as Operations Officer before reporting to MAG-31 HQ to serve as the Group Logistics Officer. During this tour LtCol Wheeler deployed as an individual augment in support of SPMAGTF-AF-CR 15.1 as the Ugandan Security Cooperation Team Officer-in-Charge.
From 2017-2018 LtCol Wheeler attended Air Force Command and Staff (ACSC) in Montgomery, AL. Following ACSC LtCol Wheeler served as the Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Recruiting Station Boston from June 2018 until June 2021.
LtCol Wheeler served most recently at the MARFOREUR/AF G-4 Plans Chief from Aug of 2021 to May 2024.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree in History from the University of South Carolina as well as a Masters of Military Operational Art and Science Degree from the Air Force Command and Staff College.
